As part of the nationwide Girls' Day, the Chair of Materials Engineering welcomed six schoolgirls to the workshop "What do aluminium foil and a bicycle have in common?" Through independent experiments, the participants were able to find out that materials as different as a bicycle frame and aluminium foil can have surprisingly much in common.
This year, the Science Day, a knowledge exchange between the LWT and the IWM, took place in Aachen. The day was characterized by exciting presentations on new research results and examination methods of the respective chairs. In addition, the LWT was given an insight into the IWM's testing facilities. The event concluded with a communal barbecue in the evening, where the exchange of knowledge was deepened in a relaxed atmosphere.
The LWT was represented at the annual meeting of SPP 2122 "Materials for Additive Manufacturing" also in 2024 which took place from 11. to 12.March 2024 in Essen.
On February 15, 2024, the Dörrenberg StudienAWARD was presented in keeping with a long-standing tradition to students who have dealt with materials technology issues relating to steel, heat treatment, surface technology or process engineering during their studies.
